The Greens are responding cautiously to the lawsuit filed by The Left against the new Heating Law. Michael Kellner, the Greens’ energy policy spokesperson, told the “Rheinische Post” that the Left’s emergency petition is primarily questioning the process rather than the content. He expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of the suit succeeding.
However, Kellner admitted that if The Left’s complaint is successful, they would be pleased and promised to treat everyone to a bottle of Rotkäppchen sparkling wine.
On the substance of the law, Kellner offered sharp criticism of the coalition’s proposal. He argued that the building modernization law would inevitably lead to higher heating costs, threaten the achievement of climate goals, and is highly likely to be unconstitutional. Because of these concerns, the Greens are also backing the constitutional complaints that have been announced by environmental organizations.
The Left announced that their goal with the court filing, which was lodged before the Federal Constitutional Court on Friday, is to temporarily halt the adoption of the planned new heating legislation.
