AfD Elects New Vice-Presidents, Propelling Stefan Möller to Prominence

During the AfD national party convention in Erfurt, the party elected new deputies alongside the party chairs. The party surprisingly introduced three completely new faces to its leadership hierarchy: Sven Tritschler, Stefan Möller, and Katrin Ebner-Steiner. Tritschler secured his position in a competitive vote, winning 50.7 percent against the former party vice-president, Kay Gottschalk, who received 36.1 percent. Stefan Möller, who serves as the co-chief of the Thuringian AfD and is a close confidant of Björn Höcke, won decisively without any opposition, achieving 76.5 percent. Completing the trio is Katrin Ebner-Steiner, the head of the Bavarian AfD parliamentary group, who received 55.7 percent. Her victory was likely greatly aided by the fact that the incumbent, Peter Boehringer, chose not to run as a challenger. Moving forward, Tritschler, Möller, and Ebner-Steiner will form the leadership alongside the two main chairs, Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla. The party chairs themselves were previously re-confirmed in their roles with votes of 81.3 percent and 70.1 percent, respectively.
