Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of BSW, announced that her party would support certain initiatives put forward by the AfD in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament, though she cautioned that not all AfD proposals align with BSW’s values. Speaking to “RTL Nachtjournal Spezial” on Thursday, Wagenknecht stated that while some AfD programs resonate with them, others do not. Specifically, she mentioned backing the calls for free school meals, state care funds, and reducing the cost of energy imports.
Wagenknecht acknowledged AfD’s promise of free lunch for all students but admitted she could not guarantee the policy’s realization. However, she added that if the AfD prioritizes these goals, BSW would grant it the necessary majority. She also views the cancellation of media state contracts as a mandate from the voters.
Despite these areas of consensus, Wagenknecht drew a firm line regarding educator oversight. She insisted that BSW would actively vote against any measure proposed by the AfD, such as establishing teacher monitoring centers or a “teacher witch hunt.” The BSW politician reiterated that many of the AfD’s positions remain significantly distant from their own agenda, noting the party’s acceptance of military rearmament.
Furthermore, Wagenknecht strongly rejected the accusation that BSW is helping to pave the way for an AfD government. She stressed that BSW does not appoint anyone to office; rather, they propose solutions, including the appointment of a non-partisan minister-president who could operate with shifting governing majorities. She confirmed that the AfD is primarily seeking cooperation and compromise with the CDU.
