Belgium secured its place in the quarterfinals of the World Cup with a convincing 4-1 victory against host nation the USA.
The Red Devils displayed strong performance from the start of the match, which was temporarily overshadowed by the controversy regarding the revoked red card for US striker Folarin Balogun. Charles De Ketelaere opened the scoring in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Raskin with a right-footed shot from close range. The USA managed to equalize in the 31st minute through Malik Tillman, who deflected a free kick from Vanaken past Courtois. However, just two minutes later, De Ketelaere regained the lead with a header following a cross from Trossard.
In the second half, Belgium exploited a mistake by US goalkeeper Freese, who hesitated too long in clearing the ball. Hans Vanaken struck from 30 meters out to find an open net, extending the lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute. Romelu Lukaku added the final touch in stoppage time, slotting it into the far corner after the USA lost possession inside the penalty area.
The game was characterized by high intensity from the outset. Belgium dominated the early phase, moving the ball skillfully through its lines. The Americans struggled to gain momentum and rarely posed a significant threat to the Belgian defense. While the US team attempted to increase the pressure in the second half, the Belgians defended cleverly and converted their limited chances ruthlessly.
With this win, Belgium will face Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 p.m. Meanwhile, the USA must bid farewell to the home World Cup following a generally disappointing performance.
