According to a recent investigation by the ADAC, fuel prices at service stations along German highways are, on average, 33 cents per liter higher than prices at other locations. The study compared rates for Super E10 and diesel at over 14,000 petrol stations, including approximately 360 motorway stops. The data collected covered the period from April 6 to April 19, 2026.
During the two-week survey, Super E10 at highway stations averaged €2.43 per liter, compared to €2.10 per liter at roadside stations. Similarly, diesel was significantly more expensive on the motorway, priced at €2.61 per liter, versus €2.28 per liter found off the highway.
The ADAC also noted considerable regional price differences. While the prices on German highways were lower in the eastern federal states and in Saarland, Saxony stood out as one of the more expensive regions.
The ADAC criticized these inflated prices, attributing them to costly concessions and the convenience offered to motorists. Further confirming this reluctance to pay high rates, an ADAC survey revealed that 63 percent of drivers indicated they would be willing to exit the highway to find cheaper fuel.
