In connection with the alleged terrorist attempt at the Leipzig airport, it appears that at least one additional drone was involved than previously known. According to reports from WDR, NDR, and Süddeutsche Zeitung, investigators have discovered another aerial vehicle and potentially military-grade explosive.
Authorities currently believe multiple drones were utilized. One drone was found on the airport grounds, while a second drone may have collided with a DHL aircraft. Furthermore, a third drone was reportedly discovered on August 14th in a field in Kabelsketal. Forensic technicians from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) recovered approximately 50 grams of the highly explosive compound Hexogen at this location. Investigators suspect that the perpetrators were planning a far larger attack.
In Kursdorf, located north of the airport, investigators also secured a technical device that may have been used to control a drone. Security sources suggest to the three media organizations that Russian intelligence services may have been involved in the attack plans, although Russia has denied any responsibility. The investigation is ongoing, and several leads, including recovered DNA evidence, are being pursued.
