The District Court of Zweibrücken has sentenced the man responsible for the fatal assault on a train conductor to a lengthy prison term. On Thursday, the judges announced that the defendant was found guilty of causing injury leading to death and was given ten years in custody. This verdict is not yet final, as the possibility of appeal to the Federal Court of Justice remains.
The incident took place on February 2, 2026, aboard a regional express service traveling from Landstuhl to Homburg. The 36-year-old conductor from Ludwigshafen was attacked by a fare evader, who struck him with forceful punches, resulting in a fatal brain hemorrhage.
During the trial, the public prosecutor’s office had initially demanded twelve years of imprisonment, asserting that there were no indications of manslaughter or murder. In contrast, the defense argued the case should be viewed as a less severe instance of injury leading to death, citing a case of excessive self-defense. The victim’s family protested the judgment announcement and did not attend the sentencing.
