According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Monday, the costs for international flights and package holidays abroad have risen sharply recently.
In the first half of 2026, tickets for international journeys increased by 8.5% compared to the equivalent period last year. Among the various routes monitored in Economy Class, the most significant price hikes were seen for flights to Central America, which rose by 12.5%. Travelers flying to Europe paid approximately 11.5% more in the first half of 2026 compared to the first half of 2025, while travel to Asia and Australia saw a 4.9% increase. Flights to North America appreciated by 3.7%, though prices for South American travel saw a slight increase of only 0.3%. In contrast, tickets to Africa became considerably cheaper, dropping by 12.0%. Furthermore, domestic flights across Germany also experienced a notable climb, costing travelers 9.5% more in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year.
Travelers seeking package holidays also had to spend more; these trips abroad averaged a 3.0% price increase in the first half of 2026. Price increases were observed for package tours to Egypt (+5.2%), the Canary Islands (+4.6%), and the Balearic Islands (+3.6%). Prices for trips to Turkey saw a moderate rise of 1.3%, while package holidays to Greece saw almost no change for consumers (0.2%). Within Germany, the price escalation for domestic package holidays was similar to the trends seen internationally, rising by 2.8% in the first half of 2026.
