New German Party Suddenly Surges Into Parliament!

Berlin – A recent opinion poll indicates a resurgence for the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW), a relatively new political force in Germany, as it reaches the 5% threshold required for representation in the Bundestag. The weekly Insa Sonntag Trend, conducted by the Insa polling institute for Bild am Sonntag, shows the BSW gaining one percentage point to reach exactly 5%. The party last achieved this level of support in the same poll on April 19th.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) remain the dominant political force, holding steady at 28%. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is closing the gap, gaining one percentage point to reach 24%, narrowing the difference between itself and the CDU/CSU to four points.

Support levels for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the Green Party and the Left Party remain stable at 16%, 11% and 9% respectively. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) experienced a slight dip, falling one percentage point to 3%. Four percent of respondents indicated they would vote for a party not currently represented in parliament.

The survey, conducted between June 23rd and June 27th, 2025, comprised a total of 1,202 participants. The results offer a snapshot of the current political landscape ahead of upcoming elections and suggest a potentially fragmented Bundestag, with a growing number of parties vying for representation.
