The cause of the widespread disruption to Berlin’s judiciary software, which had largely paralyzed operations on Monday, has been identified. The Senate Department for Justice announced on Tuesday that the culprit was identified as a software update. According to the Berlin IT Service Center (ITDZ Berlin), the registration issues were remedied last night by rolling back the update. However, the authorities noted that in certain specific instances, performance limitations might still occur due to a temporarily higher system load.
Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (CDU) stressed on Tuesday that “the judiciary must be operational at all times.” She added that modernizing Berlin’s justice IT systems is a central prerequisite for achieving this and must not become an obstacle. Consequently, she argued that the root cause of this and previous ITDZ incidents must be thoroughly analyzed and rectified at high speed to prevent future disruptions.
