Torsten Frei, the chief of staff to the Chancellor (CDU), announced a planned dramatic reduction in reporting and documentation requirements. He stated during the talk show “Stimme am Morgen” on Wednesday that the coalition committee had approved a “real paradigm shift” regarding these requirements.
Under this new approach, reporting duties will be abolished. Ministries that feel certain obligations are necessary will have to provide explicit justifications for retaining them. Furthermore, the CDU politician promised substantial cuts to documentation requirements, restricting them only to those mandates stipulated by European or constitutional law.
Frei expressed satisfaction with the progress made in streamlining government processes. He noted that since the last relief cabinet meeting in November of the previous year, the government had been able to provide relief worth approximately 10.4 billion euros to citizens and businesses. He highlighted that this included significant changes in areas like energy policy and transport policy, citing the reorganization of the driving license as an example that people could clearly feel through lower costs.
In addition to these prior efforts, new relief measures totaling about 630 million euros are now being implemented. These measures, spanning approximately twelve different actions, cover various sectors, including health, transportation, and labor market policy, and are already beginning to provide noticeable relief.
