The German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) welcomed the new Start-up Strategy introduced by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche (CDU), although the organization cautioned the federal government to ensure rapid implementation.
According to Helena Melnikov, the Managing Director of the DIHK, the government’s Start-up and Scale-up Strategy provides essential momentum, particularly in areas such as attracting more private capital, improving growth financing options, reducing bureaucracy, and assisting in the recruitment of skilled workers. However, she emphasized that the decisive factor now is the speed with which these improvements reach those intending to start businesses.
Melnikov commented to the “Rheinische Post” that founding a company is a key driver of new dynamism, especially after years of sluggish growth. She stressed that German founders require less paperwork and greater speed. The success of this strategy, she added, will be measured by these results.
Start-ups must be easier to establish and receive better conditions to facilitate growth. Furthermore, the benefits should not be confined solely to the technology sector. Trade, services, and hospitality also need tangible relief, as these industries are crucial to shaping Germany’s economic diversity.
