Incoming Health Minister Warken Named CDU Chief of Staff in Major Cabinet Reshuffle

Anja Weisgerber, the Vice Chair of the Union parliamentary group (CSU), welcomed the cabinet reshuffle planned by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU). Speaking to the Funke media group, Weisgerber praised Nina Warken’s competence and strong character, noting that she had demonstrated this notably in the successful implementation of crucial healthcare reforms. She described Warken as being “incredibly good at keeping all the threads together,” highlighting her strong network and her ability to remain calm, even during hectic times, adding that her expertise and strength were perfectly suited for the Chancellor’s office.

The planned changes include appointing Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken (CDU), as the new head of the Chancellor’s office, and moving CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann into the role of Minister of Health.

Weisgerber also approved of this appointment, noting that Linnemann had previously served as the deputy faction chair for labor and social affairs and is a “doer.” She expressed confidence that he could “seamlessly build upon” the work done by Warken in the Ministry of Health and that he would “successfully implement the further necessary reforms.”
