Leif-Erik Holm, the AfD’s top candidate for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election, advocates for aligning the retirement age with the number of years contributions have been made. Speaking to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, Holm stated that “45 contribution years must be the standard for retirement.” Through this stance, he opposed the federal government’s consideration of abolishing the unreduced pension after 45 years of insurance. Holm justified his position by citing differing employment biographies. He argued that those who begin working hard at a young age-for instance, in care work or as roofers-would be treated unfairly compared to individuals who study until age 30 and then potentially work in an office until 65. Holm, whose party is currently leading in electoral polls in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, criticized the East German state premier, claiming that the Premier does not take the resistance to the abolition of the 63-year-old pension seriously. He told the FAZ, “I don’t believe in this rebellion; it is a role-play before the election.”
