Politicians from both the CDU and CSU have expressed significant opposition to the draft tax policy changes proposed by Federal Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil (SPD), calling for revisions to the plan.
Daniel Peters, the CDU State Chairman for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, criticized the minister in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag.” Peters stated that Klingbeil was breaking his promises, arguing that not even a third of the initially promised 10 billion euros in tax relief would remain. He emphasized that the hardworking middle class in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and across Germany urgently requires genuine financial support, and he warned that the SPD’s current blockade approach is unsustainable both politically and economically.
Meanwhile, Alexander Hoffmann, the CSU State Group Leader, specifically challenged the planned elimination of tax advantages for associations and clubs. Hoffmann stressed that these organizations provide an essential contribution to community cohesion in the country. He asserted that scaling back tax exemptions for associations is misguided, as it penalizes individuals who often have few financial reserves. Since millions of people in Germany volunteer and work without pay, he argued that support for this civic engagement should be strengthened, not undermined by additional tax burdens. He demanded that the Finance Minister rework this aspect of the proposal.
