The Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs (BMDS) has rejected security concerns regarding its new operational location in Berliner Taubenstraße, which is situated next to the Russian House. Furthermore, the Ministry is contradicting reports, such as those published by Focus, which suggested that highly sensitive departments are housed at this site.
A ministry spokesperson clarified that the department responsible for “Security and Resilience of Public Telecommunication Networks” is not located in Taubenstraße, but rather in Bonn. The unit tasked with overseeing “Federal Cybersecurity” is situated in Berlin’s Friedrichstraße.
The spokesperson affirmed that neighborhood risks and potential associated hazards were thoroughly integrated into all discussions held with security agencies during the site selection process. He emphasized that the appropriate security authorities were part of these consultations. The ministry assured the public that all measures recommended by security authorities-both generally and specifically concerning the surrounding neighborhood-are being systematically enforced.
Currently, approximately 130 staff members are working at the Taubenstraße 42/43 building, a figure reported by the Ministry since July 1st. The premises house parts of the Digital Economy and Digital Infrastructures departments, and additionally, the secretariat of the National Norm Control Council is housed there.
