According to figures provided by government circles and reported by the newspaper “Bild,” nearly 9,000 deportations of rejected asylum seekers have failed this year. Specifically, 8,034 deportations failed during the first half of 2026. By mid-August, the total number of failed repatriations and deportations had reached 8,826. The main reason cited for these failures is that the responsible federal states were unable to transport the duty-to-leave migrants to the airport, often because they had previously gone into hiding. Security sources indicated that nearly 18,000 deportations failed in the previous year.
