Professor Brosius-Gersdorf Vows to Continue Public Advocacy for Legal System Reforms

Legal scholar Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf intends to remain involved in public discourse following her unsuccessful candidacy for a judgeship at the Federal Constitutional Court roughly a year ago. The professor, based in Potsdam, stated that she retains her expertise in law, along with her research and teaching activities, and plans to continue contributing publicly with suggestions for improving the legal system.

For Brosius-Gersdorf, conveying knowledge is a fundamental duty of a legal scholar. She expressed satisfaction at being able to participate in debates, such as those concerning surrogacy. Addressing those who might see her continued involvement as defiance, she insists on pushing forward.

She countered the idea that she should have withdrawn after the election process by pointing out that many parents approached her, asking if she should advise their daughters to remain silent and stay out of public view. Her response to them was a firm “No,” asserting that if she remained silent, nothing would change in how society treats people, especially women who engage in public life.

When asked whether she considered running for a judicial post again, the legal scholar firmly responded that she considers the matter closed.
