German Minister Visits Ukraine to Boost Security and Support Resilience Against Russian Attacks

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) traveled to Ukraine on Saturday to mark the country’s 35th Independence Day. According to the Foreign Office, the core focus of his visit was reaffirming Germany’s military support amid Russia’s ongoing attacks on civil infrastructure, while also working to deepen security cooperation between the two nations.

Upon his arrival, Wadephul stated that the summer months had been the deadliest for the Ukrainian civilian population in over four years. He observed that Russia had never before launched such a large volume of rockets at Ukraine. Furthermore, he noted that people across the nation were being robbed of their “future” by Russia-the future that the entire country hopes for and strives toward.

Germany is committed to helping Ukraine maintain its energy supply and build resilience into its critical infrastructure. A major objective of the trip was preparing for the upcoming winter, which included discussing the provision of generators and replacement parts. Additionally, the visit highlighted Ukraine’s importance as a security partner, suggesting that Germany could learn from Ukraine’s experience in managing hybrid threats.
