Leipzig Cruises Trier with 6-0 Victory in DFB-Pokal Opener

In the first round of the DFB Pokal, most favorites were victorious in the matches kicked off around 6 PM on Saturday, although the encounter between SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and Arminia Bielefeld was extended into extra time.

The most dominant performance came from RB Leipzig, who secured a commanding 6-0 win against Eintracht Trier. Leipzig took the lead early in the third minute when Brajan Gruda capitalized on a short pass from Ezechiel Banzuzi. Willi Orban doubled the lead in the sixth minute, successfully driving the ball over the line after a shot hit the post by Antonio Nusa. Just before the halftime break, the third goal was netted by an unfortunate own goal from Gianluca Pelzer, who failed to stop a routine shot from RB Leipzig defender Ridle Baku.

In the second half, Leipzig initially eased off the pace until Conrad Harder slotted home a goal in the 76th minute, making it 4-0, following play set up by Rocco Reitz. The guests sealed the massive victory in stoppage time; Antonio Nusa scored in the 92nd minute, and Ezechiel Banzuzi added the final goal in the 95th minute, concluding the 6-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, in a parallel fixture, Holstein Kiel traveled to defeat TSV 1860 München 2-0. Phil Harres opened the scoring for the Kiel side in the 34th minute. With a cross from Adrián Kaprálik, Harres headed home, putting the visitors in the lead, a scoreline that held at halftime despite numerous chances for both teams.

Holstein Kiel maintained their lead in the second half as 1860 München struggled to find an equaliser. Although the home side attempted several long-range shots, they were unsuccessful. Just before the final whistle, during stoppage time, Guillermo Balzi capitalized on a counterattack to confirm the 2-0 scoreline for Holstein Kiel. From a quick run orchestrated by Moritz Reimers, Balzi coolly tucked the ball into the net. Despite 1860 München playing a determined game and mounting several promising attacks, they could not penetrate the well-organized Kiel defense, and their efforts were insufficient to overturn the deficit. Holstein Kiel, by displaying efficiency and netting the second goal, earned a deserved passage to the next round of the DFB Pokal.
