Cohere and Aleph Alpha AI Merger Nears Completion, Aiming to Forge Global Tech Champion

The planned merger between AI companies Cohere and Aleph Alpha is nearing finalization, according to reporting by the specialist service “Tagesspiegel Background.” Cohere CEO Adrian Gomez stated that significant progress has been made, expressing optimism that the deal will be closed soon and indicating they are very close to an agreement. However, he declined to provide further specifics regarding the ongoing negotiations.

The planned fusion of the Canadian AI company with the former German frontrunner was initially announced at the end of April, and negotiations have been continuing since then. Gomez noted that the combined entity is perfectly positioned to build a major AI champion. He highlighted that Canada possesses strong capabilities in research, while Germany offers robust data and talent.

In a related context, the computer scientist was recently invited to deliver a presentation on AI and the economy during a cabinet session of the German government. He argued that AI has the potential to enhance the competitiveness of German businesses, thereby helping to protect jobs.
