The CDU’s parliamentary group in the Bundestag intends to fine-tune the current tax reform draft during the legislative process, according to Fritz Güntzler, the party’s financial policy spokesman.
Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Güntzler stressed that the federal government’s focus on growth, innovation, and competitiveness is paramount for the coalition-a focus that must not be neglected. He stated that the party will scrutinize the draft carefully during parliamentary review to identify areas where improvements can be made.
Once the minimum subsistence report is available, the focus will be on thoroughly examining whether the basic and child allowances are adequately reflected in the plan. Furthermore, the coalition plans to explore possibilities alongside household managers to find additional room for relief against the effect of “cold progression,” or tax increases due to inflation.
Overall, Güntzler maintained that the government’s proposal represents “an important step in the right direction,” noting that it serves to ease the burden on low and middle-income earners while simultaneously strengthening families.
