The FDP Chairman, Wolfgang Kubicki, has sharply criticized the results of the exploratory talks between the Left, the Greens, and the SPD in Berlin. Telling the Funke media group, Kubicki asserted that the exploratory document contains several plans that are “obviously unconstitutional.” He characterized this development as a unique but unsurprising occurrence in the history of the Federal Republic, adding that when extremists attempt to gain power, the constitutional order comes under strain.
Specifically addressing the proposed nationalizations of housing, Kubicki described the move to nationalize apartments once a certain threshold (10,000) is reached as “clearly arbitrary.” He also stated that the compensation supposedly offered fails to meet the bare minimum constitutional level. According to the FDP leader, tenants would be the primary losers in this scenario, while investors would simply look elsewhere. He concluded by saying that the combination of Red-Green-Red makes life unaffordable in Berlin.
Kubicki further argued that the SPD is using its stance in these talks as a way to launch another open attack against the Union and Chancellor Merz. He claimed that a federal law dealing with housing nationalization would never be passed with the Social Democrats. “Every day passes without the SPD humiliating the Union,” he stated.
Beyond his criticism of the exploratory document, Kubicki also pointed out that granting the right to vote at the state level, regardless of citizenship, is clearly unconstitutional.
