The German federal government plans to intensify its support for Ukraine in the war against Russia by providing more advanced intelligence. It is currently being considered within the Chancellery whether the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) could supply Ukraine with targeting data for strikes against Russia, according to the newspaper “Spiegel”. Military personnel refer to these as precise target coordinates essential for future drone or rocket attacks. Currently, such information is only transmitted after a significant time delay.
This measure is part of a broader package of sanctions against Russia, which was coordinated between various ministries following a attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle airport. The federal government had attributed the attack to Russia on Tuesday. In its public statement, officials had promised that intelligence cooperation would be intensified as a reaction to the incident.
