Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister-President, Sven Schulze (CDU), has rejected internal calls for a ban on tolerance regarding The Left party. Speaking to Stern, Schulze stated that the sentiment belongs to just one CDU member.
Previously, the regional CDU association in Harz discussed a paper concerning this issue, which was initially reported by the “Welt”. However, according to Stern, the paper was ultimately not passed by the district committee.
The proposed document advocated for the complete exclusion of all tolerance models involving The Left. It strictly rejected any “probing, coalition, or deference models,” insisting that the CDU must not enter into arrangements that would place the party in a “permanent supplicant or dependent role” alongside The Left.
Looking ahead to the state election on Sunday, it is likely that the CDU will need to rely on votes and support from The Left to elect a Minister-President, mirroring the situation in Thuringia and Saxony. This need is primarily driven by expectations of a strong showing from the AfD.
