Telekom Predicts AI’s ‘iPhone Moment,’ Betting on Trust and Security to Lead the Future of Technology

Rodrigo Diehl, head of Deutsche Telekom’s core business, believes that the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will trigger profound economic and social transformations. Speaking to the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger”, he suggested that “we will experience an iPhone moment again within the next five years.”

However, Diehl stressed the critical importance of robust safety and control measures when utilizing AI. While acknowledging that complete control over the technology’s development is impossible, he emphasized the necessity of building rigorous controls around data, identities, and access rights, alongside data security.

This focus on trust and security, Diehl believes, represents a significant competitive advantage for Deutsche Telekom. He argued that the future infrastructure, which will rely heavily on AI, requires a “partner of trust”-an entity capable of explaining this technology while simultaneously ensuring its security. Given its strong customer relationships, the Telekom positions itself as the ideal partner for this role.
