US Diplomats Arrive in Kyiv to Renew Stalled Peace Efforts in Ukraine

US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on Sunday as envoys from Donald Trump. This visit marks their first official trip to the Ukrainian capital, arriving via a train known as the “Peace Express.”

The delegation’s arrival comes amid a renewed effort by the United States to mediate peace talks. Prior to this mission, Witkoff had visited Moscow nine times. During his earlier trip, Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly praised Trump, and subsequently, Russian officials reported that the talks were “extremely useful.” These conversations reportedly covered not only the Ukrainian crisis but also various economic issues.

Ahead of this diplomatic push, Trump had hinted that the United States held a new proposition for ending the conflict, though no specific details were released. However, the negotiations face significant challenges, as Kyiv continues to reject Russia’s maximal demands concerning the entire Donbass region. It remains unclear how the current impasse can be broken.
