The German federal government has rejected the remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding the AfD’s election victory in Saxony-Anhalt. According to Metin Hakverdi (SPD), the government’s Transatlantic Coordinator, who spoke to Tagesspiegel, “We Germans decide for ourselves how we handle migration, and also whom we choose to vote for.” He added that advice from the White House was unnecessary.
Earlier, Trump congratulated the AfD after their win in Saxony-Anhalt, describing the party as a “movement on the rise.” On his platform “Truth Social,” he posted about the Sunday election, stating, “Wow, the populist party in Germany had a really big night.”
While the Republican did not name the AfD specifically, the target of his message was clear. Trump remarked that the AfD and its supporters were fed up with “absolutely terrible immigration rules,” adding that there would be no longer any tolerance for those rules.
