A severe traffic accident involving a Dutch passenger bus tragically claimed several lives on Thursday afternoon in Switzerland. According to the Graubünden Cantonal Police, five of the 45 adult passengers died. Furthermore, 30 people sustained minor injuries, seven suffered moderate injuries, and three were seriously injured.
The bus was traveling from Zernez toward Susch around 4:45 p.m. when it left the road and overturned in a construction zone near Less. Rescue efforts were extensive, with the injured transferred to various hospitals using seven rescue helicopters and 13 ambulance teams.
A wide array of emergency services supported the operation, including the Federal Customs and Border Security Office, Zernez and Scuol fire departments, and the Plaiv road rescue unit. Personnel from the Careteam Grischun, the forensic medicine department, and the Graubünden Public Works Office were also on site.
In addition to the rescue work, the Municipality of Zernez established a collection point for those affected, providing them with sustenance. The Graubünden Public Prosecutor’s Office, working alongside the Cantonal Police, is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
