FC St. Pauli secured its first victory of the season in the second Bundesliga on the fifth matchday, defeating VfL Wolfsburg 1-0 in the final minute. Although both teams created numerous chances across the game, neither side managed to put the ball in the net for long periods. The home team, St. Pauli, in particular, had to criticize themselves for missing several promising opportunities.
The match started with a fast pace, as both sides put strong pressure on the opposition early on. St. Pauli initially appeared to be the more aggressive team, generating dangerous shots through Ceesay and Metcalfe. However, Wolfsburg countered with a solid defensive performance and also made their presence felt offensively through Reese and Fischer.
The game slowed down in phases during the second half, though chances continued to arise. Wolfsburg increasingly focused on wing play and crosses, while St. Pauli became dangerous with shots from distance. Both goalkeepers-Zielinski for the visitors and Voll for the hosts-made strong saves, keeping their teams in the contest.
It was Joel Chima Fujita who delivered the fortunate goal for the home side in the 88th minute. With this win, St. Pauli climbs to 8th place in the table, while Wolfsburg drops to fifth.
