Franziska Hoppermann, the General Secretary of the CDU, maintains that the federal government is progressing on the right track, even though public opinion polls remain weak. Speaking to Deutschlandfunk, she acknowledged the ambiguity raised by declining poll numbers, questioning whether the current direction is correct. Nevertheless, she affirmed their path.
As evidence for this stability, she cited the planned pension reform. Hoppermann noted that the framework ensures people will receive more in retirement than before, coupled with expectations of sinking contribution rates. She described the commission’s findings as a “very positive picture,” particularly highlighting the substantial benefits for the younger generation and those nearing retirement age.
Hoppermann also offered strong backing for both the Chancellor and CDU leader Friedrich Merz. She stated that Merz strongly represents this vision for Germany’s future and its development. Furthermore, she stressed that realizing economic growth is necessary to afford measures such as tax relief. Consequently, Hoppermann argued that the primary focus must remain on fostering growth.
