The so-called National Security Council again addressed the drone incident in Leipzig on August 4 under the chairmanship of the Federal Chancellor on Monday. According to government spokesman Stefan Kornelius, the council secured a “comprehensive assessment of the situation” and believes that Germany remains a target for such hybrid attacks orchestrated by Russia. Furthermore, new measures were decided upon to combat espionage and sabotage and to protect critical infrastructure.
Kornelius further stated that the Security Council made agreements aimed at reducing “one-sided dependencies of strategic economic and security policy significance for Germany.” In this context, a rapid amendment of the investment review law was approved. Measures were also agreed upon to “ensure a diversified and resilient supply of critical raw materials.” To facilitate this, the federal government created a “central funding instrument” within the framework of the raw materials policy action plan, utilizing the raw materials fund.
Additionally, the Council revisited issues concerning military and civilian defence, as well as the security policy implications of artificial intelligence.
