AI Concerns Dampen US Markets Start to Week; Gold Drops, Oil Rises

U.S. stock exchanges eased trading on Monday. As the market closed in New York, the Dow stood at 52,421 points, registering a 0.3 percent decline compared to the previous trading day. Slightly earlier, the broader S&P 500 was down 0.5 percent, with approximately 7,620 points, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 was down 0.8 percent, calculating at around 29,125 points.

The lukewarm mood on Wall Street appears to have been driven by warnings from leading American managers regarding the dangers of Artificial Intelligence, alongside calls to slow the pace of development in the sector. Consequently, stocks for chip developer Nvidia fell by about three percent, and Amazon shares dropped by over one percent.

In the commodities market, the price of gold significantly decreased, reaching $4,284 per troy ounce in the evening, representing a 1.5 percent drop. This equates to 119.28 Euros per gram. Conversely, the price of oil gained substantially. A barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea cost $106.10 on Monday evening around local German time, marking a 1.4 percent increase from the previous day’s closing price.

Meanwhile, the European community currency weakened the previous evening. The Euro traded at $1.1546, meaning the dollar was available for 0.8661 Euros.
