Two weeks after a controversial performance by the rapper Dahabflex at a local Left Party event, Elif Eralp, one of the party’s top candidates in Berlin, commented on the resulting consequences. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Eralp stated that the district branch in Neukölln had agreed to coordinate all its future events with the state leadership.
The Berlin regional committee of the party had convened a special meeting with the Neukölln district spokespersons. Eralp confirmed that they made a unanimous decision during this meeting, concluding that Dahabflex’s appearance was a mistake and that the party rejects any form of violence.
The incident occurred at the Neukölln district branch event in late August, during which the rapper performed a song critical of the Israel-Gaza war. The song included lyrics such as “Yalla Yalla Intifada Westbank, Palästina, Gaza” and “Death to the IDF.”
Following the performance, Eralp and the central leadership of the Left Party strongly distanced themselves from the act, while the Neukölln district branch chose to show solidarity with the rapper.
“I made my position very clear,” Elif Eralp said. “The party stood behind me. I received a great deal of support.” She added that she had not faced any personal criticism regarding the matter.
