Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt of the CSU views the government’s action plan against the misuse of social benefits as a crucial step in confronting criminal networks. Speaking to the “Welt” (Thursday edition), Dobrindt asserted that “we are showing clear resolve toward social fraudsters.” He added that the government intends to dismantle criminal structures, make misuse visible, and eliminate existing loopholes.
Dobrindt confirmed that a severe measure plan against the misappropriation of social aid has been agreed upon with the Federal Ministry of Labour. Furthermore, the Minister stated that moving forward, social benefits will only be granted to individuals who have legally resided in Germany as EU citizens for a period of five years.
Highlighting opposition to certain local practices, the federal government has refused to take over unsuitable rents for housing located in substandard accommodations managed by the job centers. Finally, the CSU politician announced a strict policy change: individuals currently sought with an arrest warrant will no longer be eligible for financial support.
