Hannover 96, a team competing in the German Second Division, has appointed Sandro Wagner as its new head coach. The club announced on Saturday evening that Wagner has signed a contract running until June 30, 2028, and will lead training sessions for the first time next Monday.
Jonas Boldt, the Sports Managing Director for Hannover 96, commented on the hiring, stating, “Sandro Wagner is certainly a figure well-known in German football. What convinced us extremely was that he had engaged in intensive discussions regarding Hannover 96, our squad, and the previous course of the season, arriving exceptionally well-prepared.” Boldt added that Wagner is a person who “works meticulously” and is fiercely dedicated to the role. “The exchange quickly went into depth, which allowed us to reach a very clear decision that Sandro is the right man for us. Together with him, we intend to successfully shape the sporting future of Hannover 96.”
Wagner previously coached FC Augsburg last season, although his tenure there was terminated after 14 competitive matches. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach for the German national team, working under head coach Julian Nagelsmann from September 2023 until mid-2025.
