Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns Minister-President, Manuela Schwesig of the SPD, announced that following the state election, she intends to enter discussions about forming a government with both the Greens and the Left parties. Speaking at the SPD headquarters in Berlin on Monday, she stated that she would propose this course of action to her party, emphasizing that the aim is to establish a “stable government” with her at the helm.
During the election, the SPD achieved a second-largest share with 35.5 percent, falling just behind the AfD with 38.2 percent. However, if the SPD partners with the Left and the Greens, their combined total would reach 39 seats in the parliament-three more than necessary to secure an absolute majority. In this scenario, the AfD would be the sole opposition party.
Separately, Schwesig also defended her intense campaigning strategy. Responding to criticism, she asserted that “a campaign means a fight and not a stroll,” defending her aggressive electoral approach.
