Stephan Pilsinger, the CSU Deputy Chairman of the Health Committee in the Bundestag, has made clear his opposition to any shift away from the current dual health insurance system. Speaking to the news magazine “Focus”, the CSU politician stated that he does not believe Chancellor Merz intends to abolish the fundamentally proven dual health insurance system. He argued that discussions aiming at scrapping private health insurance should be left to the Greens and the Left Party. Pilsinger insisted that such a move would “not shorten a single waiting time” and would be “practically and constitutionally extremely difficult to implement.” Ultimately, he added that what is crucial for the population is being able to receive an appointment and good medical care in a timely manner.
