Juso leader Philipp Türmer criticized SPD Chairpersons Bärbel Bas and Lars Klingbeil, arguing that the party currently lacks sufficient answers during its ongoing crisis. While he did not claim that the two leaders were the root cause of the problems, Türmer told RTL and ntv that they are currently not part of the solution. He asserted that, over the past eighteen months, the party has failed to find the necessary direction or strategy to guide the Social Democrats.
Regarding Klingbeil specifically, Türmer noted that he has been the party leader for five years without having managed to organize a resurgence. The Juso boss stressed that the Social Democrats cannot afford to lose any more time, stating that the party is in a deep crisis and urgently needs clear answers. He added that the leadership at the top must also take initiative, something he believes is lacking in certain areas.
When asked whether Manuela Schwesig might hold the key to the solution, Türmer declined to commit to an answer, preferring not to limit the discussion solely to personnel matters. However, he acknowledged that staffing choices do play a role. He maintained that a comprehensive package is required, and the party must address what its mission should be in the 21st century. Türmer said that the Jusos would submit their own proposals, but these must ultimately be incorporated into the party structure.
