Mecklenburg-Vorpommeran’s Minister-President, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), has rejected calls for changes to the retirement age after citizens have paid contributions for 45 years. According to the “Bild” (Wednesday edition), Schwesig stated, “For me, what I said before the election applies after the election.” She argued that it is a matter of fairness that those who have worked throughout their careers and paid into the pension fund could retire early without deductions. At the same time, Schwesig pointed to the coalition agreement between the CDU, CSU, and SPD at the federal level. This agreement explicitly states that early retirement without deductions after 45 years of contributions should remain possible in the future. The SPD politician added, “I expect the federal chancellor and the federal government to implement this.”
