Film producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a New York court for sexual assault. This sentence falls below the maximum penalty of 25 years.
The 74-year-old Weinstein continues to deny any involvement in rape or sexual assault, and he has already announced his intention to appeal the conviction. As a result, this long-running legal battle is expected to continue. He has been in continuous custody since 2020.
Weinstein was a prominent producer in Hollywood starting in the 1990s, responsible for well-known movies such as “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love”. While he was first publicly accused of sexually harassing a large number of women in 2017, he has faced multiple legal proceedings resulting in decades-long prison terms, though some of those convictions were later overturned.
