Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor has criticized Germany and Europe for their dangerous short-sightedness regarding the situation in the Middle East. Writing a guest piece for the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, the diplomat insists that when Iran supports networks of armed groups, Europe’s policy must view the situation as a whole. Prosor emphasizes that the threats made by Iranian entities, along with Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthi militia, should not be understood merely as a regional conflict. He points to Iran’s cooperation with Russia and North Korea as evidence of direct links between the Middle East and European security, stating that democratic nations cannot act as if various conflict zones are unrelated.
Prosor argues that while European concerns about economic costs and confrontation are understandable, avoiding difficult decisions does not eliminate these costs-it merely postpones them until the danger grows and options dwindle. He stresses that the issue is “more than just Israel”; it concerns Europe’s fundamental ability to deter aggression.
The third anniversary of October 7th serves as a powerful example of ignoring critical security concerns. In 2023, Hamas terrorists attacked Israeli settlements, resulting in the deaths of over 1,000 people.
