Upon taking office, designated Federal Minister of Labor Alexander Schweitzer (SPD) intends to accelerate the planned pension reform, though he clarified that it will not necessarily be implemented in the precise manner suggested by the Pension Commission. Speaking in Berlin on Tuesday, he stated that there are proposals currently on the table that require further content discussion. Nevertheless, he emphasized that decisions must ultimately be made so they can enter a legislative process. Schweitzer pledged that his ministry will strive to introduce the necessary laws both quickly and thoroughly, a point he had already discussed with the Federal Chancellor. He is scheduled to receive his official certificate of appointment from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier this Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
