Söder Demands Swift Action: Coalition Must Accelerate Reforms After Minister Bas Resignation

Following the resignation of Federal Labor Minister Bärbel Bas (SPD), Bavaria’s Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) is vocally demanding a quicker pace for reform policy, significantly increasing the pressure on his coalition partner, the SPD. Söder told the publication “Bild” that the alliance simply needs to “pull itself together now,” adding that the focus must be on producing results rather than engaging in arguments.

He emphasized that given the recent economic recovery, “The economy is finally growing again. Therefore, we must firmly stay committed to the reform path if we want this upward trend to continue.” Söder stressed the necessity of increasing the overall governing tempo, stating that contribution must come from all parties. He concluded with a stern warning that the government “cannot postpone everything again while waiting for the SPD.”
