According to a survey conducted by Forsa for the channels RTL and ntv, the approval ratings for Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) continue to show no signs of improvement. The poll revealed that only eleven percent of German citizens are satisfied with Merz’s work, while a large majority, 87 percent, are dissatisfied. Dissatisfaction reaches a new high point even among supporters of the CDU and CSU, with 61 percent expressing that they are not satisfied with his work.
In terms of party management, only eleven percent of citizens believe that Merz still has his party under control, a view contradicted by 83 percent of the population. Similarly, among Union supporters, doubts are prevalent; 69 percent are of the opinion that Merz no longer has control over his party, compared to only a quarter (25 percent) who disagree.
Regarding his future tenure, only 31 percent of German citizens believe that Merz will remain Chancellor until the end of the 2029 legislative period. Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) expect an earlier end to his chancellorship. Within the groups supporting the Union and the Greens, half expect him to remain in office until the end of the legislature. However, among supporters of the SPD (54 percent), the Left Party (59 percent), and the AfD (87 percent), a majority anticipates an earlier end to his term.
