Federal Minister of Construction, Verena Hubertz (SPD), has voiced her support for Lars Klingbeil to be re-nominated as the SPD party chairman. Speaking to the news portal “T-Online,” Hubertz stated clearly that she backs Klingbeil staying in the position. She praised his smooth handling of the transition following the unexpected withdrawal of Bärbel Bas and believes that due to upcoming reforms, he is the right person to lead the party and serve as Vice Chancellor.
When asked about potential candidates to take over the co-chairmanship, the SPD politician did not offer a statement. Instead, Hubertz encouraged any potential female candidate to take time for self-reflection, advising her to consider whether she is willing and able to take on the role or what kind of contribution she could offer.
Regarding Manuela Schwesig (SPD), who is reportedly being considered for the post, Hubertz commented that Schwesig is “one of the most talented politicians” within the party. She noted that Schwesig recently ran an excellent campaign in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and achieved an impressive comeback. However, Hubertz added that whether or not she desires the position is something that only Manuela Schwesig can confirm.
