The region around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv was once again targeted by waves of Russian missile attacks during the night into Monday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that there was again no early warning from partner countries.
According to Zelenskyy, targets included energy facilities and infrastructure, but the attacks also damaged a medical facility, a school, a metro station, and ordinary residential buildings. He stated that the Russians fired a total of 16 ballistic missiles in a focused assault on Kyiv and its surrounding region. Furthermore, over 200 drones of various types were deployed, with the attacks extending beyond Kyiv into the regions of Kharkiv, Dnipro, Volyn, Rivne, and Odesa.
Zelenskyy reiterated his call for increasing the pressure on Russia. He stressed the importance of naming the facts, declaring Russia to be the aggressor. He criticized international partners, stating, “If deliveries of missiles for the Ukrainian air defense are blocked while Russia is granted easing or postponements of sanctions, this is unfortunately a denial of reality on the part of our partners.” He concluded by saying, “The reality is that the war continues, and it continues solely because of Russian attacks and Russia’s attempts to drag out this war.”
