German Cabinet Meetings Halted for Autumn Break Amid Ongoing Legislative Work

The regular weekly cabinet meetings of the federal government will be suspended due to the autumn holidays, according to government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius on Monday, speaking to the dts news agency.

Kornelius added that there is a cabinet plan, stating that it remains “fully packed until the end of the year.” He assured the public that although a pause has been implemented because of the autumn break, the preparation for cabinet topics will continue permanently, as will the work on various legislative projects.

The spokesperson clarified that this particular interruption for the autumn holidays is not new. However, he noted a difference in the past: last year, the then-relatively young government under Merz did not take such a break. In 2024, under Scholz, there were two consecutive weeks in the autumn without a cabinet meeting, which immediately preceded the collapse of the Ampel coalition.
