The German federal government has signed a letter of intent with Nvidia. According to the Federal Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Research, the initiative aims to advance the development of AI models specifically for Physical AI, as announced during the Investment Summit in Berlin on Monday. This project will be built upon Germany’s industrial data, manufacturing expertise, and engineering capabilities, and it is integrated into the federal government’s AI Roadmap and the Industry 4.0 Platform.
The primary goal of this initiative is to systematically introduce industrial AI into widespread application and establish a “state-of-the-art industrial AI ecosystem” in Europe. The Industry 4.0 Platform is slated to act as the central strategy network for industrial AI and is open to all companies. It will maintain collaborations with international partners and focus exclusively on the topic of industrial AI.
A specific emphasis of the partnership is placed on collaborating to develop specialized, open models for industrial AI. Nvidia plans to expand its engagements with German partners “to ensure that innovations are widely distributed and that German small and medium-sized enterprises can benefit from AI advancements.”
