During a campaign event in Georgia, U.S. President Donald Trump was told by German automaker Audi that the company plans to build a new SUV manufacturing plant in the United States. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner thanked Trump for his support during the announcement.
The major facility, which is expected to produce 200,000 vehicles annually, is scheduled to begin construction in the coming month. The construction itself is set to start in 2027. Audi has announced plans to invest roughly four billion U.S. dollars and create approximately 4,500 jobs at the new site. Production of premium SUVs for the North American market is anticipated to commence in the early 2030s.
Meanwhile, the IG Metall union responded positively to the plans but stressed the need for clear career prospects for employees across all of Audi’s locations. Christiane Benner, the union’s first chairwoman, emphasized that binding commitments regarding job security are essential, noting that the final decision on the factory expansion remains conditional upon approval by the corporate boards.
